Step 2: Making an application
Step 2: Making an application
You must complete an application form* and provide a submission that meets the PBAC guidelines to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) secretariat by the PBS Calendar.
Handy hint: The executive summary should be no more than 12 pages, and reference what is in the rest of the submission.
- The PBAC secretariat will confirm receipt
- The Economics Sub Committee (ESC) secretariat evaluates and develops commentaries on major submissions
- The Drug Utilization Sub Committee (DUSC) secretariat evaluates and develops commentaries on major submissions that are likely to be identified as Tier 2 or 3.
- The PBAC secretariat prepares an overview of the submission for the PBAC
- The Pharmaceutical Pricing Section allocates a provisional ‘tier’ status to submissions
- You will be advised of the tier status and the inclusion of your submission on the PBAC Agenda
Note: A Tier 1 submission recommended without modification by PBAC can be fast tracked if pricing is already agreed.
If your Submission is tier 2 or tier 3 you should consider discussing tier status and pricing with the Pricing Section
Handy hint: If there is disagreement on price, tier 1 applications may have to change to tier 2 status, which adds to the listing processes.
You can find contact details for the PBAC, ESC, DUSC and the Pharmaceutical Pricing Section on the PBS Contacts page
*You can find the Application to List a Drug or Medicinal Preparation as a Pharmaceutical Benefit on the PBS forms page.
