Access to Medicines Working Group Interim Report

1 December 2008

The Access to Medicines Working Group (AMWG) is a joint Department of Health and Ageing and Medicines Australia panel that advises on ways of achieving timely and appropriate access to effective new medicines subsidised through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

An interim report has been released that provides a framework for discussions about the PBS and helps inform the Government on strategic directions for further reforms to the PBS.

The Interim Report details the AMWGs exploration of 2 key areas:

  1. The Effects of Statutory Price Reductions on the listing of New Medicines.
  2. Managing Uncertainty in the Assessment of Medicines for listing on the PBS.
