The Generic Medicines Working Group (GMWG) met in Canberra on Wednesday, 27 February 2019. Attendees included representatives from the Department of Health (the Department), the Generic and Biosimilar Medicines Association (GBMA) and pharmaceutical companies.

During the meeting, members were provided with updates on the Biosimilar Policy subgroup and the PBS Transparency and Efficiency subgroup, including the recent industry and consumer consultations.

GBMA provided an update on the Biosimilar Education Grant and confirmed the Biosimilar Awareness Week scheduled for the week beginning Monday 29 April 2019. Further details are available by visiting the Biosimilar Hub website.

Prior to the next GMWG, the Department and GBMA will address a number of action items. These items include holding a preliminary meeting of the new Uptake, Pricing Supply and Viability subgroup. This subgroup is an amalgamation of the Uptake Drivers for Generic and Biosimilar Medicines and the Pricing Supply and Viability Subgroup. Combining these groups will ensure sufficient resources are allocated to the key priorities.

In addition, work will continue on the priorities outlined in the 2015 Strategic Agreement between the Commonwealth and GBMA and the subsequent 2017 extension to this agreement.

Members agreed to hold the next GMWG meeting in Sydney in July 2019.
