The Department has completed a 24-month review of the Minimum Stockholding Requirements, which commenced on 1 July 2023. Under these requirements, responsible persons must hold a minimum of either 4 or 6 months of stock in Australia for certain Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) listed medicines known as designated brands.
The Executive Summary of the review outlines key findings on the impact of the policy on medicine shortages. It also covers the operation of and compliance with the policy, and includes recommendations for improvements to policy and processes.
