Remuneration to Community Pharmacy for medicines dispensed under the PBS and RPBS

The Commonwealth Price for medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and the Repatriation PBS (RPBS) – that is, the pharmacy remuneration – is calculated as per section 4.2 of the Sixth Community Pharmacy Agreement (6CPA).

Information about the current rates of remuneration and fees under 6CPA is available from both the PBS and the Department of Human Services websites.

The Administration, Handling and Infrastructure (AHI) fee replaced the former pharmacy retail mark-up and represents a significant change to the basis upon which community pharmacies are remunerated.  The AHI essentially delinks the price of medicine to community pharmacy remuneration.  It is intended to support the sustainability of the community pharmacy sector while removing a barrier to future PBS reform.
