Manner of Administrations that are currently in use by the PBS

For pricing purposes, the following is a list of all Manner of Administrations that are currently in use by the PBS:

Manner of Administration Description
Application Administered topically.
Application to the ear Administered into the ear.
Application to the eye Administered into the eye.
Application to the eye/ear Can be administered into the eye and the ear.
Buccal Application to or administration through the cheek cavity.
Buccal/Sublingual Can be applied or administered through the cheek cavity and beneath the tongue for a systemic effect.
For external use The product is not intended for internal use or for application.
Inhalation by mouth Taken into the lungs by breathing through the oral route only for local or systemic effect.
Inhalation Taken into the lungs by breathing through the nasal route only or through the nasal and oral routes for local or systemic effect.
Implantation Includes all routes of administration for implants as defined by the TGA.
Implantation/oral The product is available as a combination pharmaceutical item and one or more components can be administered via any TGA defined route for implants and one or more components can be taken through the mouth into the gastrointestinal system.
Injection Includes all injectable routes of administration as defined by the TGA.
Injection/oral The product is available as a combination pharmaceutical item and one or more components can be administered via any TGA defined route of injection and one or more components can be taken through the mouth into the gastrointestinal system.
Injection/Intravesical Can be administered via any injectable route defined by the TGA and can be administered via instillation into the bladder.
Injection/solvent for injectables Can be administered alone via any injectable route defined by the TGA, or can be administered acting as diluent for an injectable requiring reconstitution prior to administration.
Intra-intestinal Administered directly into the intestine via a transabdominal tube.
Intrauterine Insertion into the uterus.
Intravesical Instillation into the bladder.
Nasal Administered into or within the nose.
Oral Taken through the mouth into the gastrointestinal system.
Oral application Applied within the mouth for local effect.
Rectal Administered through the rectum.
Sublingual Administered beneath the tongue for a systemic effect.
Transdermal Application to the skin for a systemic effect.
Urethral Administered through the urethra.
Vaginal Applied into the vagina.
